The Tribal Radioactive Materials Transportation Committee (TRMTC) consists of representatives from 21 Native American tribes throughout the United States who are, or may be, impacted by the transport of radioactive materials, including spent nuclear fuel. The list of participating tribes can be viewed on the Member Tribes page.
TRMTC meets semiannually to discuss topics relevant to the member tribes and the National Transportation Stakeholders Forum (NTSF). The TRMTC and NTSF meeting schedule is on the Meetings page. The DOE created the NTSF as a national-level mechanism through which DOE works with tribes and states regarding the policy and planning for shipments of radioactive materials and spent fuel. NTSF meetings focus specifically on discussing packaging and transportation, emergency management, security, inspections and enforcement, and radiation protection. TRMTC meetings, on the other hand, provide an opportunity and venue for participating tribes to interact with DOE headquarters senior-level staff, other federal agencies, state representatives, industry, and other parties involved in transporting radioactive materials, including spent nuclear fuel.
