TRMTC Overview
The Tribal Radioactive Materials Transportation Committee (TRMTC) engages tribal governments interested in or impacted by the broad spectrum of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear energy activities related to shipments of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. With representatives from 21 Native American tribes, the composition of TRMTC offers a unique perspective on the broad range of issues surrounding transportation and storage of radioactive materials and spent nuclear fuel.

Focus Areas
TRMTC's focus areas include:
Ensuring early engagement with federal agencies on their decisions regarding the transportation of radioactive materials
Coordination with federal agencies on transportation operational procedures and to build tribal capacity
Obtaining training and identifying resources for tribes' emergency management, radiological preparedness and response, and public health and safety programs
Integration of cultural and natural resource considerations into federal decision-making
