Is My Tribe Impacted?

From 2022-2023, TRMTC staff undertook research to analyze impacts of radioactive materials transportation on Tribal lands in the lower 48 states of the U.S.

The mapping exercise captures current and potential shipment routes, both highway and rail, for radioactive materials shipped by the U. S. Department of Energy, licensees of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the U.S. Navy that cross tribal lands. It also lists which tribes are within 10 and 50 mile radius of either a nuclear power plant, university research reactors, DOE facilities that handle or store radioactive materials, and private industry storage or disposal sites.
